A writer of the Then and the Now
Christopher P. Winner is an American journalist and editor based in Rome. He began his career in 1975 as sports editor of the now-defunct Rome Daily American and is currently the Editor and Publisher of The American, an English-language magazine focused on politics, culture, and international affairs. Over five decades, Winner has earned a reputation for insightful commentary that blends personal experience, global perspective, and sharp cultural critique.
In recent years, he has written candidly about living with glaucoma, an incurable eye disease that has significantly impaired his vision, deepening both the intimacy and urgency of his reflections on contemporary life.

Important note to readers
‘I grew up and worked in a generation before the advent of artificial intelligence. All my writing was generated by a sense of the times and the specific events that characterised those times. I regret the co-opting of creativity that A.I. now sadly represents.’ ~ Christopher P. Winner
